I wrote the song in February of 2007 on the first true day of sun of that year. That same day I had bought The Shins' sophomore album "Chutes Too Narrow". I had been listening to The Shins a lot and they were influencing my writing and music a lot. This song was written for my girlfriend Caroline. But as sappy as that sounds, when I decided to write a song for her, I vowed not to make it an aimless, sappy song. This is a song I wrote that steered itself in the direction of her naturally, so everything fell into place.
Lyrics to A Stroll with You:
It’s beautiful now the sun is shining
The darkness can be so confining
Give me your hand while the sky is blue
Let me take a stroll with you
The clouds have made a daisy chain
Now I won’t be the same again
I won’t ask more than what I do
Let me take a stroll with you
The sun will be hot, the sky will be blue
If you’re all I’ve got, I’m only thinking of you
Don’t stay inside, there’s better things you can do
Give me your hand, let me take a stroll with you
With you
Brighter than the sun for a while
I need sunglasses just to see your smile
Give me your hand and we’ll pull this through
Let me take a stroll with you
It’s beautiful now the sunlight shows
It feels so good to let things go
Give me your hand while the sky is blue
Let me take a stroll with you
The sun will be hot, the sky will be blue
If you’re all I’ve got, I’m only thinking of you
Don’t stay inside, there’s better things you can do
Give me your hand, let me take a stroll with you
With you

Track 2: Alone with A Rose
This song is about being let down; plain and simple. About getting your hopes up and having them crash down, broken promises, and in result having to spend the rest of the day sulking. The latter of which I did a lot of in July of 2007; long story. Anyways, it's crazy (for me) that the song ended up with a happy chord progression, because more or less, it's our saddest song. Originally the song was meant for piano with no guitar (say what?!) but eventually the idea got scrapped after I realised I could do really crunchy 60's style guitar, which I'm a sucker for.
Lyrics to Alone with A Rose:
It was a perfect day
Till you threw our plans out the door
I woke up with a smile
And the thought that I’d see you once more
I thought I had told you I need you
And that I love to see you smile
I had a rose in my hand
That I had picked just for you
It was your favourite colour
And the best from where they grew
Then it turns out you can’t make it
I’m alone with a rose in my hand
But and I should be with you
There’s so much we could do
I’m alone with a rose in my hand
It was a perfect day
Till you through our plans out the door
I woke up with a smile
And the thought that I’d see you once more
I thought I had told you I need you
And that I love to see you smile

Track 3: See the Day
In October of 2006 (this was the first song I wrote for the album), I entered a poetry contest for some website because I was trying to get tickets to see the Shins. I didn't think much of the poem, but two weeks later I get a letter saying that I won the contest, and that my poem was going to be featured in a poetry book that's published throughout the country. My first reaction was "holy shit", haha. Anyways, since people liked the poem, I thought "what the hell" and so I tried putting it to music, and sure enough, I got something.
Recording didn't ensuit for months to follow, a demo version was recorded for our EP in April of 2007. And finally the album version was recorded in April of 2008. The song features a wah wah solo in the break that I'm extremely proud of. And at the end of the song, it features a finger picking riff I wrote originally for another song.
Lyrics to See the Day:
Go away
Go away
There’s lots of things
To see today
Feel the breeze
Feel the breeze
There’s so many things
To get me on my knees
Fly on higher
Fly on higher
Light cannot breach
The highest flyer
Fly on higher
Fly on higher
Light cannot breach
The highest flyer
Go away
Go away
I need to get up
And see the day
